DATA SCALING MATTERS
TUESDAY 12TH OCTOBER 2010
Did you know?
• There are already more bits stored on the worlds’ servers than stars in the universe.
• There will be 1,800 exabytes of electronic data (1.8 zetabytes!) by 2011.
• IDC predict that by 2020 we will see a 44x increase in digital information!
Moore's law states that processing capability doubles every 2 years ...... so, .......
WHY DON’T BUSINESS APPLICATIONS BENEFIT FROM THIS ADDITIONAL POWER?
Once upon a time the database was a solution. Now, it is the bottleneck.
Join us as we explore two projects which address how to solve the issue of data scaling.
Our first presentation will introduce you to a breakthrough database technology that unleashes the potential of modern computers to deliver up to 70 times the performance of traditional relational databases. John Kirk from Ingres will explain how Ingres VectorWise has streamlined the database bottleneck into a faster, smarter, and simpler solution for business intelligence and analytics applications.
In our second presentation Manik Surtani will tell us about cloud computing, data grids and the impact these two have on each other. Manik is founder and project lead for Infinispan, an open source, highly scalable data grid platform. Infinispan offers JTA compatibility, write though and write behind caching, passivation, querying and indexing, and most importantly, highly scalable, distributed data storage. It allows the developer to create highly distributed applications through its uncomplicated API for distributed data storage.
